Virginia RADEP Courses

Overview

What is RADEP?

RADEP stands for Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program. It is a 12-hour program that drivers may be ordered by a court to take if they are charged with a non-alcohol-related reckless or aggressive driving offense.

RADEP can be completed EITHER as a single 12-hour course or as two separate courses completed sequentially: the 8-hour Driver Improvement course and the 4-hour Reckless Aggressive Driver Education course.

So, Which Course Do I Take?

If the court has ordered you to complete RADEP, we recommend you take the single 12-hour course. In circumstances where you have already recently completed an 8-hour Driver Improvement course and the judge has told you that you can count that toward your RADEP requirement, then you can take the 4-hour Reckless Aggressive Driver Education course to meet that requirement. But, make sure you have permission from your court to do this. Just because you've taken an 8-hour Driver Improvement course in the past doesn't mean your judge will allow that to count toward a RADEP requirement.

How the 12-hour Full RADEP Course Works

The 12-hour RADEP course can be completed in 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Register. Registration takes only a few minutes. Create an account with a username, password and email address. Fill out your contact information and read about course procedures. Make payment and then you're ready to get started.

Step 2: Complete the coursework. The course is comprised of short lessons that meet the 12-hour requirement. At the end of each lesson is a 4-question, multiple-choice quiz. You must score 75% or higher to pass and proceed to the next lesson. You can retake the lesson quiz as many times as necessary to pass.

At the end of the course is a 10-question, multiple-choice final exam. You must answer at least 8 questions correctly to pass the final exam. Don't stress - most people pass on their first attempt, but if you need to retake the exam, you can! Retake the final exam until you pass at no extra charge.

Step 3: Receive your Certificate of Completion. Once you complete the coursework, including passing all lesson quizzes and the final exam, we will email you your Certificate of Completion. You must provide this to your court as proof that you have completed RADEP.

How the 4-hour Supplemental RADEP Course Works

If you've already completed the 8-hour Driver Improvement course and your judge has said this can count toward your RADEP requirement, then you can complete the 4-hour course in 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Register. Registration takes only a few minutes. Create an account with a username, password and email address. Fill out your contact information and read about course procedures. Make payment and then you're ready to get started.

Step 2: Complete the coursework. The course is comprised of short lessons that meet the 4-hour requirement.

You can retake the final exam until you pass.

Step 3: Receive your Certificate of Completion. Once you complete the coursework, including passing all lesson quizzes and the final exam, we will email you your Certificate of Completion. You must provide this to your court as proof that you have completed the 4-hour RADEP supplemental course.

Please note that if your court has directed you to complete a 12-hour Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program (RADEP), that this 4-hour course certificate only meets part of this requirement and you must also provide your court with your 8-hour Virginia Driver Improvement certificate.

Can I receive DMV credit or safe driving points for completing RADEP?

No. RADEP courses are not for DMV credit or safe driving points. The purpose of RADEP is solely to satisfy a court requirement for a Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program (RADEP).
