What is the 4-hour Supplemental Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program?

This 4-hour supplemental course is designed to be taken with the 8-hour Driver Improvement course to satisfy a RADEP requirement.

RADEP stands for Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program. It is a 12-hour program that drivers may be ordered by a court to take if they are charged with a non-alcohol-related reckless or aggressive driving offense. If you have been ordered by a court to complete RADEP and you have NOT taken the 8-hour Driver Improvement course recently, we recommend you complete the full 12-hour RADEP course. The supplemental 4-hour course is designed for those who have recently completed the 8-hour Driver Improvement course and whose court has given them permission to count that toward their RADEP requirement. The 4-hour course by itself does not satisfy the RADEP requirement.

The supplemental RADEP course is 4 hours long and delves into driver psychology and behaviors, including how to safely handle anger and stress when you're behind the wheel. Course topics include the following:

  • Aggressive driving behaviors – what they are, what causes them, their risk factors and legal consequences
  • Road rage – what it is, what causes it, risk factors and legal consequences
  • Driver psychology – understanding why we make risky choices and how to form healthy driving habits
  • Strategies for safely handling anger, stress, and other difficult emotions on the road, including anger management techniques and conflict resolution
  • Understanding that driving is a conscious choice you make in the moment, not just a habit.

Please Note: You should check with your court prior to registering to ensure they accept online courses to satisfy the RADEP requirement. Most courts do accept online courses, but there are a few courts who may require you to take an in-person course.

Please Note: If you have already taken the 8-hour Driver Improvement course, please check with your court to ensure they will count it towards the RADEP requirement. If you completed the 8-hour course with a different provider, please ensure your court will accept course certificates from two different providers and that they do not require both courses to be taken with the same provider.

What is the difference between the 12-hour full RADEP course and the 4-hour supplemental RADEP course? How do I know which one to take?

RADEP can be completed EITHER as a single 12-hour course or as two separate courses completed sequentially: the 8-hour Driver Improvement course and the 4-hour supplemental Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program course.

If the court has ordered you to take complete RADEP, we recommend you take the single 12-hour course UNLESS you have already recently completed an 8-hour Driver Improvement course and the judge has told you that you can count that toward your RADEP requirement. In those circumstances, you can can take the 4-hour supplemental Reckless Aggressive Driver Education Program. But, make sure you have permission from your court to do this. Just because you've taken an 8-hour Driver Improvement course in the past doesn't mean your judge will allow that to count toward a RADEP requirement.

If I've taken an 8-hour Driver Improvement course in the past and my court has now directed me to complete RADEP, can I just take the 4-hour supplemental RADEP course?

You must check with your court to see if they will allow you to count the 8-hour Driver Improvement course you took towards your RADEP requirement. You should not automatically assume that just because you completed an 8-hour course in the past that it will count towards your RADEP requirement.

I took the 8-hour Driver Improvement course with a different provider. Can I take the 4-hour Supplemental RADEP course with Safe2Drive?

Please check with your court to verify that they will accept course certificates from two different providers to satisfy the RADEP requirement.

What is the cost of the 4-hour Supplemental RADEP course?

The course price is $89.95.
