New York Online Pre-Licensing Course

2-Factor Authentication

What is 2-factor authentication and why is it needed in this course?

2-factor authentication is a security method that requires 2 forms of identification to access an account or system. In our case, the 2 factors that we use to verify your identity are: 1) your phone number and 2) a one-time code sent to your phone.

The New York DMV requires that we have certain security measures in place to verify that the person who registered for the course is the person who is completing the course. 2-factor authentication satisfies this state requirement.

How does 2-factor authentication work?

2-factor authentication is quick and easy!

During registration, you will be asked to enroll your phone number. To do this, you will simply enter your phone number and choose how you would prefer to receive your 5-digit code. The two options are via text or phone call. We will then text or call you with your code. You will enter the code you receive on the screen. That’s it! You’re ready to get started with the course.

Seven times throughout the course, you will be be texted or called with a code and then asked to enter it on the screen. You will have 60 seconds to do so. If you do not enter the code within 60 seconds or if you enter the code incorrectly, that counts as one failed attempt. You get three attempts to pass each 2-factor authentication. If you fail all three attempts, the State of New York requires that you restart the course from the beginning. We understand this can be a bit frustrating and we want to help where we can. We will not charge you to restart the course. Just give our Customer Support team a call and we will get you set up to start again FREE of charge.
