What's the Difference Between the Online and Video Courses?

You can choose to take either our Online Course or our Video Course when selecting a Basic Driver Safety Program. The courses are both approved and will meet your DSP requirement. Both courses are taken online, and both courses contain videos.

The difference is that the Online Course includes more interactive elements, like games, polls, and slideshows. Our Video Course contains all of the same course information, but it is made up of only video instruction.

The course that you choose depends on what kind of learner you are: do you retain information better when you interact with it, or are you more of a visual learner? Our courses are designed with you in mind. We want you to have the best possible course experience!

How It Works

Get everything done in four easy steps!

Registration is fast and easy! Create a username and password and provide some basic information. Use your username and password to access the course as often as you want. We provide an unlimited number of logins.

Our Video Course is made up entirely of video content that is divided into 10 lessons. Each lesson ends with a short quiz. You must get at least 80% on each quiz (4 out of 5 questions correct) to proceed to the next lesson; you are allowed unlimited retakes on quizzes.

You will also be asked 5 personal validation questions throughout the course to verify your identity; these are simple questions that you will answer during registration. You must answer at least 60% of these questions correctly in order to complete the course.

The course is 4 hours long and includes timers to ensure that you are spending enough time on each lesson to absorb the information. However, you can complete the course at your own pace: a little at a time or all in one sitting. Each time you log in, we automatically take you to where you last left off.

You will take the exam online. It consists of 10 questions, and you must score at least 80% to pass. Most people pass the exam the first time. However, you can take the exam as often as necessary without any additional charge.

Once you have passed the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion online. This certificate can be accessed in your student account. We recommend that you print a copy of your certificate for your records.

We will also notify the BMV of your course completion! Indiana Online Driver Safety will electronically transmit your course completion information to the BMV within 72 hours of your course completion.

We suggest that you check with the BMV within 7-10 business days after you complete your course to make sure everything has been processed on their end. It can take up to 10 business days for the BMV to process your completion, so please plan accordingly to meet your deadline. Your license may be suspended if you do not complete your course on time.

Please Note: If you are taking a course to satisfy a court order, you must deliver your certificate to your court.
