Traffic School In California

You typically take traffic school after you have been issued a citation. You are eligible for traffic school if:

Eligibility
You have a valid driver license.
You were ticketed for a moving violation (e.g., speeding, red light).
You have not taken traffic school for a ticket you got in the last 18 months.
Courtesy Notice

You receive a courtesy notice about two weeks after getting a ticket. The courtesy notice tells you if you are eligible for traffic school.

Charge Dismissed | No Points

After completing traffic school the court will dismiss your charge, and the DMV will not assign any points to your driving record.

This means that only the court will be aware of the ticket and that you attended traffic school. Most importantly, your insurance company will not know.

County By County

Online traffic school programs in California are monitored by each county. Therefore, what you must do depends on the county in which you were ticketed. Select your county below to find out more.
