How Does Safe2Drive's Online Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course Work?

If you are age 18 or older and failed your first attempt at the maneuverability or road portion of the driving test, you must complete an Ohio abbreviated adult driver training course before attempting the driving test a second time. Take this course to fulfill the 4-hour classroom or online instruction requirement. In Ohio, abbreviated adult driver training consists of two components:

  • 4 hours of classroom instruction
  • 24 hours of driving with another licensed adult or 4 hours with a certified instructor.

Safe2Drive's Online Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course will satisfy the 4 hours of classroom instruction requirement of the abbreviated adult driver training course.

Here's how our course works:

1. Register. If you are at least 18 years old and failed your first attempt at the maneuverability or road portion of the driving test you can sign up for our course. Registration is easy--simply create a username and password and read some information about the course.

2. Complete the 4 hours of online coursework. Enjoy short lessons full of games, animations, videos and other interactive multimedia elements. Each lesson is followed by a short quiz. You must pass the lesson quiz to move on to the next lesson. Most people pass the lesson quiz on their first attempt, but we provide unlimited retakes of lesson quizzes at no additional cost. Review the lesson material and retake the quizzes until you pass!

4. Pass the final exam. At the end of the course, you must pass a 20-question, multiple-choice final exam. A passing score is 75%. According to Ohio rules, you are only allowed 3 attempts at the final exam. If you fail the exam a third time, you must start the course over from the beginning.

5. Receive your Certificate of Completion. When you pass the final exam, we will email you your Certificate of Completion. This is your proof that you have completed 4 hours of abbreviated adult classroom instruction. Present this certificate to the school you’re taking the behind-the-wheel instruction with.

If you are completing your behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor, the behind-the-wheel driving school will issue you a completed abbreviated adult driver training certificate when you finish the 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training. The certificate indicates that you have completed both the 4 hours of coursework and the behind-the-wheel instruction portions of abbreviated adult driver training. You will bring that certificate with you when you go to take your driving skills exam at the BMV.

If you choose to complete the 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older, you must complete the Twenty-Four Hour Affidavit (BMV 5789) attesting you have completed the minimum twenty-four hours of driving experience. You will bring your Certificate of Completion for the classroom instruction as well as your completed affidavit with you when you go to take your driving skills exam at the BMV.
